In celebration of 150 years of engineering education in 2011, the Melbourne School of Engineering is establishing the “Len Stevens Scholarship” in honour of Emeritus Professor Leonard Stevens AM, patron of the 150th anniversary celebrations and former Dean of Engineering (1979-1988).
The Melbourne School of Engineering recognises excellence and seeks your support to enable outstanding engineering students to undertake learning opportunities above and beyond the requirements of the graduate engineering program, so they can make a significant contribution as our future engineers.
“I am passionate about supporting exceptional engineering students who willingly extend their learning beyond their Melbourne experience. The Melbourne School of Engineering seeks to raise $500,000 over three years to create an ongoing scholarship that will inspire engineering students of the highest calibre and enable them to undertake extra curricula learning opportunities either locally or globally during their graduate engineering studies.
When I was Dean of Engineering I saw first-hand the impact of giving in helping students pursue their dreams. Many of our alumni and friends gave generously to the Melbourne University Engineering Foundation during my term and students could make choices that made a real difference to their education. Now the MUEF Board of Management has generously committed $100,000 to help build this scholarship fund. I ask you to join me in establishing this scholarship to recognize talented students seeking to enrich their learning.”
Emeritus Professor Len Stevens AM
Patron, 150th Engineering Anniversary
Emeritus Professor Stevens AM is one of the most well respected members of staff in Engineering. As Dean of the School in the 1980s, he was instrumental in establishing the Melbourne University Engineering Foundation (MUEF) trust fund, to which our alumni and friends have generously donated for many years. Appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2005 for services to civil engineering, particularly through the theory and practice of structural engineering, and to tertiary education as an educator and administrator, Professor Stevens continues to influence the next generation with regular teaching commitments and is often sought as a guest of honour at engineering alumni reunions.
